This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter has worked with Huntin' Fool for many years, and the relationship has held up because the results have. Bison on Arizona's Kaibab Plateau are the focus here. The main guide has hunted this unit for more than fifty years and has as deep a working knowledge of the plateau, the bison, and the strategies that produce as anyone alive. He is not working alone either. Two or more additional guides and assistants help cover a unit that is far too large for one person to watch. That combination of a lifetime in one place and enough people to actually cover it is what makes this hunt viable at all.

HUNT DETAILS:
This is a hard hunt and the outfitter is upfront about that. Bison on the Kaibab sit at low densities and may not even be present during a given hunt, which is why success rates here are very low. The animals live along the edge of Grand Canyon National Park, which is closed to hunting, and that limits opportunity further. Hunters should come prepared for something long and slow. The primary method is sitting a blind placed over a water hole, wallow, or proven travel corridor, while other guides work the unit glassing and cutting for tracks. Each day begins with a briefing on current bison movements and the plan. If animals are located, a spot and stalk can develop, which means covering several miles through timber and open ground. Transportation is by ATV, truck, or on foot depending on the ground. The plateau runs over a thousand square miles of forest, meadow, and canyon between six and nine thousand feet.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Lodging ranges from rustic camps to comfortable lodges depending on the hunt. Camps typically use heated tents or trailers, which keeps hunters warm at eight thousand feet where nights get cold regardless of the calendar. The lodge option offers modern amenities for anyone who would rather sleep under a roof. Meals are hearty and built around long days, with a hot breakfast before heading out, a packed lunch for the field, and dinner back at camp. On a hunt where hunters may sit a blind for hours and then cover miles on foot, eating properly matters more than usual. Hunters should confirm which setup applies before booking.
