This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter treats outfitting as a way of life rather than a hobby, and the passion behind it shows. They guide big game hunts in Wyoming for mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep, antelope, moose, mountain lion, and black bear, which is nearly everything the state has. Their permits cover some of the most coveted units in western Wyoming, including a large portion of the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Gros Ventre Wilderness. That kind of wilderness access is rare and it is the foundation of everything they offer. Summers are spent setting up camps and scouting for big bucks, bulls, and rams, so the work is well underway long before a hunter shows up.
HUNT DETAILS:
Western Wyoming continues to hold high numbers of elk, and counts in every area this outfitter works run above the herd objectives set by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. That is not a small thing, and it means the opportunity here is real rather than promotional. Natural winter range along with nearby winter feed grounds is what supports the population. The country hunted runs from high mountain basins down to lower timber-covered hills broken by large meadows, so the hunting changes depending on where the elk are holding. Horses and mules pack hunters and gear into each camp, and horses remain the mode of transportation throughout the hunt. Without them, hunting this remote backcountry would not be practical. For a hunter who has dreamed of a bull elk, or wants to better the one already on the wall, this is the kind of country that makes it possible. Hunters should be comfortable riding and prepared for long days in the saddle and on foot.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Five camps are in play. Four are pack-in wilderness tent camps set in the high mountains south of Jackson Hole, reached on horseback and about as far from a road as hunting gets in this state. The fifth is an end-of-the-road, drive-to tent camp in the heart of the Wyoming Range Mountains, which suits hunters who would rather skip the ride in. All of them are first-class camps placed in prime locations, and they produce good bulls every year on general area tags. Which camp a hunter ends up in depends on the hunt booked, so it is worth asking about the specific setup before committing.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
