These hounds are the heart of the hunt, and the team spends well over 100 days each year hunting lions, lynx, bobcats, and bears.
This is not a slow, sit-and-wait style bear hunt. This is a high-energy, full-contact, adrenaline-filled black bear hunt designed for hunters who want action, excitement, and the chance to put their hands on a truly big Northern British Columbia bear.
HUNT DETAILS:
This spring black bear hunt is an absolute adrenaline rush from start to finish. It is a fast-paced hound hunt where the day begins from specially equipped 4x4 trucks and ATVs as the guides and dogs search for fresh tracks and scent from mature boars. When the hounds strike the right track, the hunt comes alive. The dogs are released, the chase begins, and hunters stay in the race as the hounds push through thick forest, rugged terrain, and remote bear country.
When a big bear is finally treed or bayed, the excitement is hard to describe. Walking in behind the hounds on a giant boar is the kind of heart-pounding moment every serious hunter should experience at least once. The guides then carefully judge the bear for sex, maturity, hide quality, and trophy potential before the hunter takes the shot.
This is a true 100% opportunity-style hunt with big bears. The bear population is strong, the trophy quality is excellent, and this area consistently produces upper-end bears, including bears that reach the 7-foot-plus mark with impressive skull size. These are not average bears. Northern British Columbia produces heavy-bodied, mature, big-headed bears with exceptional hide quality.
The color-phase potential adds even more excitement to the hunt. Hunters may see black, brown, cinnamon, and even red-phase bears. The northern climate also helps produce thick, heavy hides, making these bears outstanding trophies.
The terrain is wild, rugged, and beautiful, with dense boreal forest, deep valleys, remote wilderness, waterways, and mountain country. This is a busy hunt with a lot of action, strong bear numbers, and the real potential to sort through bears to find the right mature trophy. Hunters can also legally harvest two bears during their hunt, adding even more value and opportunity to an already high-action experience.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Lodging is provided in a comfortable cabin-style camp with home-cooked meals prepared throughout the hunt. The camp can typically accommodate up to four or five hunters at a time, with hunts generally conducted on a two-hunters-per-guide basis.
This hunt is based around mobility, hounds, and staying in the action. Hunters should be ready for long days, changing weather, and the possibility of moving quickly once the dogs strike a track. Spring conditions can vary from mild temperatures to rain, snow, wind, and cold weather, so hunters should come prepared with quality gear.
Recommended spring gear includes waterproof hiking boots, rubber boots, gaiters, moisture-wicking socks, comfortable hiking pants, breathable shirts, a mid-weight jacket, sweatshirts, light gloves, a hat, rain gear, a day pack, a refillable water bottle, and personal toiletries and medications.
Airport pickup and drop-off are included for clients flying into the nearest regional airport. Guests may also choose to rent a vehicle and drive to camp.

Black bear hunting in British Columbia is highly regulated, with specific licensing, quotas, and regulations in place to support strong, sustainable bear management. These regulations, combined with excellent habitat and healthy bear numbers, help produce the type of mature, heavy, big-skull bears this hunt is known for.
Hunters are responsible for securing all required licenses, tags, and travel documentation prior to the hunt. The outfitter will assist clients with the necessary license information and hunt preparation details.
