ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter was born and raised in northern California and has hunted the state his entire life. Tule elk are the specialty, and he has been guiding for them for more than ten years with one hundred percent success to date. The ranches worked run to more than fifty thousand combined acres in Monterey County, in and around King City, and they hold as good a stretch of Tule elk habitat as exists anywhere. Three types of hunt are offered, private land trophy hunts, private land management bull hunts, and guided draw-tag hunts, which covers anyone who has drawn a tag as well as anyone who wants to hunt without waiting on one.
HUNT DETAILS:
Six to seven bulls are harvested here each year, running from two hundred eighty to three hundred thirty inches and better. Elk numbers on these ranches are remarkable, and it is not unusual to see one hundred to three hundred head in a day. Archery and rifle hunters are both welcome. Archery hunters sit blinds set on water holes at twenty-five yards or less, with spot and stalk available as an alternative, and every guide on staff is a bowhunter, which shows in how those setups are handled. Rifle hunters should expect shots averaging two hundred to three hundred yards. The terrain allows for longer shooting for anyone capable of it, but that is rarely necessary since these ranches lend themselves to spot and stalk and closing to an ethical range. Bulls respond well to calling under the right conditions. The outfitter also guides draw-tag hunts in the Owens Valley and Grizzly Island units on a guide-only basis for hunters who draw there.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Lodging is a comfortable, clean lodge set right in the hunting area, which is the best part of the arrangement. On any given day a hunter can look out the window and see anywhere from one hundred to three hundred head of elk, which is not something most elk camps can claim. Being on the hunt area also means no commute at either end of the day. The outfitter tailors lodging and packages to what individual hunters need rather than running one standard setup, so a solo hunter and a group can both be handled. Ask about specifics when booking, since arrangements can be adjusted.

It is important to note that hunting Tule elk on private ranches in California is also subject to regulations and restrictions. Hunters must obtain the necessary licenses, permits, and tags, and follow ethical and sustainable hunting practices to ensure the safety of themselves, other hunters, and the elk population.
