HUNT DETAILS:
This outfitter provides exceptional Columbia Blacktail deer hunting on roughly 80,000 acres of private land in San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties. The habitat features classic rolling oak woodlands surrounding fertile valleys—prime country for high deer numbers and strong buck quality. Hunters typically see 15–20 bucks per day, and with a consistent 100% shot opportunity, this hunt delivers one of the most reliable Blacktail experiences available. Located within California’s southern A Zone, the area offers over-the-counter rifle tags, with the general season opening the second Saturday in August and running for 45 consecutive days. Management deer hunts are structured as three-day packages, while trophy and PLM hunts extend over five days, with additional days available upon request.
Hunters can expect full days in the field with a midday break for lunch. Spot-and-stalk hunting is the preferred method, although tree stands and ground blinds are strategically placed throughout the ranch for those who prefer a stationary setup. Accommodations can be tailored to all experience and fitness levels. Most hunters arrive at or after 1:00 p.m. on day one to sight in their equipment before heading out for an evening hunt. Guided hunts are offered in both weekday and weekend formats, and the operation can host groups ranging from single hunters to parties of eight.
Multiple package options are available. Trophy buck hunts include meals and lodging and focus on mature bucks with strong frame characteristics, typically averaging around 115” SCI gross. PLM Trophy hunts also include lodging and meals and utilize Private Lands Management tags valid from July 15–November 30, offering prime rut opportunities in mid-October. Management buck hunts are available at a reduced rate and are taken at the guide’s discretion, based on a combined scoring system of width, height, and total points. All hunts include one buck, field transportation, snacks and drinks while hunting, complete game cleaning and skinning, and comfortable lodging with meals provided.
Hunters need only bring a valid California hunting license, an A Zone deer tag, appropriate rifle or archery equipment, copper ammunition for rifle hunts, good hiking boots, warm clothing, and binoculars. With high success, excellent deer density, and beautifully managed habitats, this Blacktail hunt offers an outstanding opportunity for both seasoned hunters and newcomers alike.
BLACKTAIL DEER/WILD PIG COMBO:
This outfitter offers an exciting Blacktail deer and wild pig combo hunt designed for big-game enthusiasts seeking a dynamic and rewarding experience on California’s Central Coast. Known for providing some of the best Blacktail deer hunting in the country, these private ranches routinely produce exceptional deer numbers, with hunters commonly seeing 15–20 bucks per day. The archery season opens on the second Saturday in July and runs for 23 consecutive days, followed by rifle season beginning the second Saturday in August and continuing for 45 days. With a proven 100% harvest success rate on Blacktail deer, hunters can expect a truly productive and memorable pursuit.
Complementing the deer hunt is the opportunity to pursue wild pigs in the same diverse habitat. Expansive oak woodlands, brush-filled valleys, and agricultural fields create an outstanding environment that supports high pig densities year-round. Hunters often encounter 20–40 pigs per day—sometimes more—ranging widely in size and color. The operation maintains a 100% shot opportunity on wild pigs, making this combo hunt an ideal way to maximize time in the field. Spot-and-stalk hunting is the primary method for both species, with ground blinds utilized for archery hunters who prefer a stationary setup.
The structure of the combo hunt includes dedicating the first portion of the trip to harvesting a Blacktail deer before shifting focus to pursuing wild pigs. This format allows hunters to immerse themselves fully in each species’ unique behavior and strategy while experiencing two highly successful hunts in one adventure. With abundant game, beautiful country, and exceptional consistency, this combination package offers a thrilling opportunity to double up on two iconic California species—a hunt that truly stands out as one of the best available.
