ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter works western Wyoming, in the country near Yellowstone National Park and Cody, and the species list is about as complete as it gets in the state. Hunters can pursue elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, antelope, mountain goat, black bear, and mountain lion. The operation is not limited to hunting either. Grizzly bear sight-seeing tours, summer pack trips into the high country, and fishing trips are all on offer, which makes it workable for families and for hunters bringing along people who would rather not carry a rifle. Whether the goal is a specific animal or simply time in that part of the state, the outfit is set up to handle both.
HUNT DETAILS:
This outfitter is based in the heart of Wyoming's Moose Area 11, which holds some of the best Shiras moose hunting in the state. Hunters have two ways to go about it. One is to hunt from one of the outfitter's two remote wilderness camps, which puts them deep in the habitat with the hunting starting right outside the tent. The other is to hunt from the lodge each day, which trades some immersion for comfort and works well for hunters who would rather sleep under a roof. Either way, the access here is what matters. The outfitter covers a vast amount of prime moose habitat, which means guides can glass a number of different bulls over the course of a hunt rather than committing to the first one they find. On a once-in-a-lifetime tag, that ability to look over multiple bulls before deciding is worth a great deal. Hunters should plan on long days behind glass.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Two setups are available. The outfitter runs two well-established backcountry camps that put hunters directly into remote, game-rich terrain, where the hunting starts right outside the tent. Those camps use comfortable wall tents heated by camp stoves, which keeps hunters warm and dry when mountain weather turns, and hearty home-cooked meals are prepared daily. The alternative is to stay at the lodge and hunt from there each day, which gives hunters a roof, a real bed, and a shorter morning. Both options include food and lodging. The choice comes down to how much comfort a hunter wants to trade for being closer to the moose.
