ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter works western Wyoming, in the country near Yellowstone National Park and Cody, and the species list is about as complete as it gets in the state. Hunters can pursue elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, antelope, mountain goat, black bear, and mountain lion. The operation is not limited to hunting either. Grizzly bear sight-seeing tours, summer pack trips into the high country, and fishing trips are all on offer, which makes it workable for families and for hunters bringing along people who would rather not carry a rifle. Whether the goal is a specific animal or simply time in that part of the state, the outfit is set up to handle both.

HUNT DETAILS:
Mule deer live in this country year round rather than moving through it, which is a large part of why opportunity here is consistent. Good bucks are found close to the lodge, and that changes the character of the hunt. Hunters who would rather not spend hours on a horse getting to a high mountain camp can hunt productive ground within a short ride of where they sleep, and that also makes this one of the few western deer hunts that works with family along. The other option is one of the outfitter's established backcountry camps, which puts hunters deeper into the mountains for a harder, more immersive week. Both options are guided by people who know the terrain and know where the better bucks tend to hold. Whichever way a hunter goes, the country is deer rich, and the guides work it accordingly, focusing on locating a mature buck rather than settling for the first legal deer that shows itself.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Two setups are available. The lodge option puts hunters in a private cabin with the hunting close enough to day hunt from there, which suits anyone who wants a comfortable base or has family along. The backcountry option uses one of two established camps, with wall tents heated by camp stoves that keep hunters warm and dry when mountain weather turns. Hearty home-cooked meals are prepared daily in the backcountry camps, and the hunting starts right outside the tent. The choice comes down to how much comfort a hunter wants to trade for being deeper in the country.
