ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter has been operating in Sonora, Mexico for years, working more than twenty-five ranches that together cover hundreds of thousands of acres in some of the best country the state has. Feeding programs run year round and game management is the top priority rather than an afterthought. Age class is the center of the program. The discipline behind that has paid off over many years, and it is not uncommon here to pass a buck one year and take him the next once he has finally reached his prime. That kind of patience is rare in an outfitter and it is the reason the deer on this ground look the way they do.
HUNT DETAILS:
Coues deer hunting in Sonora carries real tradition behind it, and the country is a large part of the appeal. The terrain is rugged, the wilderness stretches a long way in every direction, and wildlife is abundant throughout. Sonora is known for producing exceptional Coues deer, and this outfitter has a great deal of ground to work, all of it with a record behind it. The hunting itself is demanding. Coues are elusive animals with extraordinary senses, an ability to disappear into cover, and the speed to leave a hunter looking at nothing. Success comes down to patience, moving quietly, and knowing the terrain well enough to predict where deer will be. The guides here have taken trophy Coues using a range of tactics rather than one approach, and the hunt can be adapted to almost any hunter's ability. That flexibility means a hunter who cannot climb all day and one who can both get a real chance at a good buck.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Lodging is a ranch house setup with running water, clean and comfortable bedrooms, and hot showers, which is more than a hunter has any right to expect this far out in Sonora. The food is a highlight. Authentic Mexican cooking prepared by cooks who take real pride in it, with a minimum of three meals a day and plenty of drinks and snacks available at any hour. Nobody goes hungry or thirsty on this trip. Between the ranch house, the food, and the pace of the evenings, the time off the mountain is a real part of the experience rather than just somewhere to wait out the dark.
