ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter is a dedicated family of professional hunters and outfitters, offering both drop camps and fully guided hunts for elk, mule deer, and bear. They welcome you to their camps for an unforgettable adventure, where their passion for the outdoors shines through. Their mission is to share their deep knowledge and love of nature with fellow enthusiasts, providing an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse in the thrill of the hunt.
HUNT DETAILS:
They offer two drop camp options: one situated high in the mountains and another in the high desert. Your placement will be determined based on weather conditions.
These drop camps provide a DIY-style hunt, ideal for self-sufficient hunters willing to put in the effort. Success comes to those who hunt hard and stay persistent. While they will point you in the right direction and share valuable tips and techniques, they do not guarantee assistance in retrieving your game. It is essential to remove the hide from your animal immediately, as leaving it overnight will result in spoilage.
Elk and mule deer are hunted in diverse terrains, from lower elevations with pinyon-juniper and sagebrush pockets to higher elevations featuring dark timber, aspen stands, and open sagebrush. Elevation ranges from 4,327 to 8,968 feet, with a generally mild climate compared to other parts of Colorado.
The landscape varies from rolling sagebrush to steep-sided canyons, making this a physically demanding hunt. The ruggedness of this unit ranks 20 out of 185, and they aren’t exaggerating when they say preparation is crucial. The terrain is steep, rocky, and challenging, with minimal access by 4x4—expect to do a lot of hiking. They strongly recommend physical training and arriving in top condition; they cannot stress this enough.
This is a true wilderness experience, hunting wild game in a remote setting. Bring sturdy boots and a camera—you won’t want to miss the breathtaking views of Colorado’s backcountry. Be prepared to follow the movements of elk and mule deer as they transition between high and low country in response to weather and hunting pressure.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
They will provide lodging accommodations in the form of an outfitter tent easily accessible by vehicle. These camps are fully equipped with pots, pans, 2 burner camp chef stove, cooking utensils, silverware, plates, bowls, paper towels, hand towels, toilet paper, toilet, hand washing bucket, a wood stove, propane, lighting, water, shower, cots for sleeping, chairs, tables, and they'll make sure you don't run out of firewood!
LICENSE PROCESS:
Licenses for second season, and third season rifle in Colorado are available over-the-counter. The state uses a preference point system to allocate archery, muzzleloader, first rifle, and late rifle licenses in limited units. Each unit and season require different numbers of preference points to draw a license. Huntin' Fool License Application Service will help you apply at the time of application.
