This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter operates in Colorado with access to nearly twenty thousand acres of private land spread across multiple ranches. Elk are the focus. Those properties hold strong resident elk populations with excellent bull-to-cow ratios, which is the foundation everything else rests on, and the ground sees very little pressure because access is controlled. HUNT DETAILS:
Peak physical fitness is not a requirement here, which opens this hunt up to a wider range of hunters than most elk hunts. The terrain varies considerably, running from high timbered mountains down through gently rolling hills and juniper flats, so a guide can match the country to what a hunter is able to handle. Mornings and evenings are spent glassing from elevated vantage points looking for a mature bull, and because pressure on these ranches is so low, elk stay visible through the day rather than disappearing into cover at first light. Hunts are offered exclusively as two hunters to one guide, and only four to six hunters are taken across an entire season. That restraint is the whole reason the hunting holds up. Bulls over three hundred fifty inches come off this ground every year, though the hunt primarily targets bulls in the two hundred eighty to three hundred fifteen class.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hunters stay in a well-maintained ranch house with three comfortable bedrooms and private bathrooms, so nobody is sharing a bath or waiting in line at the end of a long day. With only four to six hunters taken all season, the house never feels crowded. All meals are served family-style and prepared fresh by an on-site cook, which makes for a warm, home-cooked experience rather than something reheated. Evenings around the table tend to run long. Because lodging and meals are both handled, hunters arrive with their gear and nothing else to arrange, and the whole week stays focused on hunting.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
Most elk tags in Colorado are available only through the draw. In some cases 2nd, and 3rd season rifle elk tags are available over-the-counter.
