The Huntin' Fool 2011 Story Contest - Official Rules
1. ELIGIBILITY: Contest is offered and open only to current Huntin’ Fool members and anyone residing with a Huntin’ Fool member. You must have successfully harvested a qualifying big game animal during the 2010 calendar year to participate in this contest. If the story is not written by the hunter, the prizes will go to the hunter. Void where prohibited by law. Each entrant must be of legal hunting age in the state in which they are hunting. U.S. laws govern this contest. The winners may not be an employee of Carter’s Hunter Services (“Sponsor”) nor an individual domiciled with any such employee. By entering, you agree to these Official Rules, which are final and binding in all respects.
2. STORY REQUIREMENTS: All stories entered must be 2010 hunts. Any story submitted pertaining to a hunt prior to the 2010 year will not be accepted. Hunts in stories must be big game in North America hunted fair chase. Animals acceptable for stories are: Deer, Elk, Antelope, Sheep, Buffalo, Goat, Moose, Oryx, Ibex, Bear, Lion, Caribou, Wolf, and Musk Ox. Stories must be 500 to 1500 words. Entrants must submit a signed exclusivity contract to be eligible. You must also submit a minimum of 3 photos to qualify. Sponsor reserves the right to edit stories for content and/or length without notice. Submit stories via email to submit@huntinfool.com or by mail to Carter’s Hunter Services Story Contest, PO Box 250, Cedar City, UT 84721. When submitting your stories include the location of the hunt, species, name, address, and phone numbers with area codes (home, work, and cell). Include the very best kill photos and indicate if you have additional photos. Please keep emails less than 10MB due to email servers potentially blocking large emails. 3. CONTEST PERIOD. Contest period begins on January 1, 2011 at 12:01 AM Mountain Standard Time (MST) and ends on December 31, 2011 at 11:59 PM MST. We will accept stories as soon as you have successfully completed a 2010 hunt. All entries must be received by October 1, 2011 at the latest in order to make the December issue.
4. CONSUMER DISCLOSURE: PRIZES AND ODDS OF WINNING: A full description of each prize package, and associated retail value, can be found on our website. Entrants must submit their entries in accordance with these Official Rules. Deadlines are identified under “CONTEST PERIOD.” The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received. It is expressly understood that Sponsor is under no obligation to the entrants, potential winners and winners, other than as expressly set forth herein. Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes and fees associated with the receipt and use of any prize.
5. ENTRY FOR CONTEST: Entry may be made by mail or email to submit@huntinfool.com. Stories can be mailed to: Carter’s Hunter Services Story Contest, PO Box 250, Cedar City, UT 84721. Complete submittal requirements are identified under “STORY REQUIREMENTS.” Sponsor is not responsible for any lost, incomplete, illegible, late, mutilated or misdirected entries. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to void any and all entries of an entrant who Sponsor believes has attempted to tamper with or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of this contest; and to cancel the contest.
6. EXCLUSIVITY: All entries become the exclusive property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. Sponsor reserves the exclusive right to publish any story submitted. If the story submitted, a description of the story, or pictures associated with the story appear in another magazine or on any website (including web forums, etc.) we reserve the right to revoke your membership to the Huntin’ Fool, you will forfeit any prizes awarded, and your story will not be entered into the 2011 Story Contest.
7. AWARD AND PRIZES. Each person who submits a story with exclusive rights to the Huntin’ Fool will be eligible for the 2011 Story Contest. Of the stories submitted, approximately 225 will be published in The Huntin' Fool magazine. The hunters whose stories are published in The Huntin' Fool magazine will receive our custom $100 Huntin’ Fool Knife Set and a Huntin’ Fool hat. Twelve of these stories submitted will be selected for cover stories and will receive a pair of Zeiss Victory 10x42 Binoculars. All published stories in The Huntin' Fool magazine (excluding the cover story) and monthly online web stories will be combined and selected as Member's Choice Stories and voted on each month by the membership. Each month the story with the highest number of votes will receive their choice of either a Remington Remington 700 SPS Stainless Rifle chambered in the 300 Remington Ultra Mag or a new Mathews bow. The second place story will receive a Huntin' Fool Hat and the New Huntin' Fool Classic Folding Knife. In the event of tie, a random drawing will be held to determine the winner and second place. Gift certificates or prizes will be delivered to winners on or before January 20, 2012. Winners have the right to forfeit any prize, which forfeiture must be done in a signed writing. Prizes will not be reassigned and alternative potential winners will not be selected. Prizes are non-transferable.
8. TAXES ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNERS. The winners shall be responsible for all taxes, fees, or other costs, including, without limitation, any travel or transportation costs, associated with winning.
9. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Prizes are non-transferable, subject to change, and there are no substitutions on any prizes (Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes). The depiction of the prizes in any advertising or promotional materials may not reflect the actual prize delivered to the winners.
10. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Sponsor or participating sponsors, and their respective affiliates, employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives, successors, assigns, and licensees (“Released Parties”) shall not be liable for any property loss, damage, personal injury, or death or any claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy, resulting from participating in this contest or from the acceptance or use of the prizes awarded. Any dispute shall be resolved individually without resort to any form of class action.
11. LIABILITY/PUBLICITY RELEASE: The potential winners shall each be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release by December 31, 2011 and prior to receipt of each prize or forfeit the prize. By submitting an entry and participating in this contest, entrants irrevocably transfer, grant and assign to the Sponsor, its affiliates and its respective successors, assigns, and licensees (unless prohibited by law), the right worldwide and in perpetuity, to use entrant’s name, likeness, voice and photograph in any and all media for any advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, as well as on the Sponsor’s website in connection with this contest and other promotions, and release Sponsor and any entity acting on behalf of Sponsor from any liability with respect thereto.
12. FIREARMS: All winners must fill out all appropriate paper work prior to receiving a firearm. It is the sole responability of the winner to file appropriate paper work.
13. A contest entry packet may be obtained by calling 1-435-865-1020 and requesting a contest entry packet. The packet may also be obtained by following the appropriate hyperlink and instructions on www.huntinfool.com. A list of the official winners may be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Carter’s Hunter Services Story Contest - Winners List, PO Box 250, Cedar City, UT 84721. Vermont residents may omit return postage.
